AWARENESS CREATION FOR IWRM
The SADC Water Division initiated an IWRM awareness creation initiative in order to ensure that senior decision-makers in all sectors and the media are aware of key aspects of IWRM and its relevance to social and economic development in the SADC region. The Component covers the SADC-RSAP project concept notes on “Awareness Creation for IWRM” (RSAP Projects AAA4, AAA 20 and AAA 21). It seeks to put IWRM issues high on the political agenda, to facilitate the application of integrated approach in political processes, and to get IWRM into the media on news and on features.
Firstly, it is taking IWRM awareness beyond concepts and terminologies to showcasing IWRM best practices and facilitating the sharing of IWRM experiences. Secondly, it is moving IWRM awareness beyond the converted by acting as an information bridge connecting water-using and water-influencing sectors (agriculture, industry, environment, energy, tourism, fisheries, health, finance, economic planning and law) to IWRM.
The Component’s immediate objectives include: demonstrated awareness among targeted decision/policy makers of key aspects of the IWRM concept and its relevance to social and economic development in the SADC region; and demonstrated awareness of key aspects of IWRM issues among the media in the SADC region. Amongst its portfolio are activities that create awareness through reading about, dialogue on and seeing IWRM in practice. |
